He gratuated Istanbul American Robert College and Hacettepe University Medicine Faculty. He completed his Urology Residency in Hacettepe University Medicine Faculty Urology Department in 1991. His specialist education in Pediatric Urology lasted through 1994 and 1995, in USA, Washington University. He became an assistant professor in 1995, and a professor in 2002.

He took part in Turkish Board for Pediatric Urology Board of Directors between 1996 and 2006, followed by his role as chairman between 2008 and 2011.

He was elected as a member of the Board of Managers for European Society of Pediatric Urology in 2003, and led as chairman of Education Commission between years 2003 and 2008.

He was named scientific secretary for the European Society of Pediatric Urology through 2008 to 2010.

He then worked as General Secretary for European Society of Pediatric Urology between 2010 and 2016.

He became one of the founding members and a member of board of directors for Society of Urological Surgery in Turkey in 2010, in which he was then named chairman, between years 2011 and 2013.

Following 2004, he was elected to be a member of the Consultation Council for Urinary Incontinence of World Health Organization, and was named chairman of the pediatric sub-committee in 2008. He wrote the section regarding pediatric urinary incontinence in the textbook published by this committee (ICI 2009 Report). He is as of this moment, priming on the 2017 Report, as an active member of this committee.

He is also leading as chairman of the committee responsible for publishing pediatric urology clinic guidelines for the last 8 years, which stems from European Association of Urology. These clinical guidelines provide all European doctors with up to date information on diseases and treatment options.

He took part as an instructor of European Urology Residency Education Program in Prague between 2003 and 2010, organized by European Association of Urology annually during September.

He has published over a hundred scientific articles regarding pediatric urology, in scientific journals abroad (examined by SCI). He took part as a section author in 6 books written in English, and also has written forth over 120 international papers on pediatric urology, and around 300 articles and notices nation-wide. His active sum in this manner is close to 2,000 with an H index of 22.

He worked as a secondary editor for Journal of Pediatric Urology between 2006 and 2010, and is still named as a section editor for pediatric urology, for the book Urologic Surgery published by Pediatric Urology Editorial Committee.

He worked as an editor for the first three publications of Society of Urological Surgery in Turkey, Quick Guidelines.

He was invited as a guest lecturer in numerous symposiums abroad.

He has also been honored as a guest professor in various Pediatric Urology Departments all around the globe (USA, England, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Nigeria, Georgia, Bangladesh, India, Russia, Japan, Colombia, South Korea, Greece, Ukraine, Spain, Canary Islands, Canada).

He organized many pediatric urology symposiums, domestic and abroad.

He received the Hacettepe University Scientific Promotion Award in 2002.

Serdar Tekgül, MD Prof, is one of the 24 members of the Society for Pediatric Urologic Surgeons. This scientific society, formed 50 years ago, is limited to 24 members, with inclusions only through invitation.

He has been continuing his academic and clinical studies in pediatric urology alone, for the last 23 years.

Serdar Tekgül, MD Prof, is presently staffed in Hacettepe University Medicine Faculty Urology Department, and is the chairman of educational program in Pediatric Urology Unit. This unit, is the first in Turkey, and one of 17 in Europe, to receieve certification of competence, to provide education in pediatric urology. This certificate was earned 9 years ago, which then had granted this unit to become one of 6 centers in Europe.

Following Serdar Tekgül, MD Prof’s lead, 8 people up until now have finished their 2 year studies, and have earned right of membership into European Society of Pediatric Urology. Also, 12 doctors, 3 of whom from abroad (Egypt, Austria, USA), have had the privilege to receive education for periods of 1 to 12 months.

He has been invited as an international speaker and guest lecturer, in over 80 centers.

He gratuated Ankara Science High School and Hacettepe University Medicine Faculty.

His residency education in Hacettepe University Medicine Faculty Urology Department was finalized in 1996. He then received a sub-branch specialist education during 1996-1997, in Urooncology, under Hacettepe University Medicine Faculty Urology Department. Following, he worked in 100-bedded Elazığ Military Hospital for 1,5 years, and Ankara Numune Hospital 2. Urology Clinic for a time of 2,5 years. Afterwards, between 2001 and 2002, he worked in USA, Texas University Immunology and Organ Transplant Department for 2 years. He became an assistant professor in 2004, an associate professor in 2005, and a professor in 2010. His area of special interest encapsulates organ transplantation and immunology, pediatric urology and minimal invasive surgery (laparoscopic).

Following his graduation of Hacettepe University Medicine Faculty in English education in 1998, he then started his residency in Urology, in the same university. His residency was accomplished in 2003, followed by 2 years of working as a fellow of urology in the same clinic. He then started working in Uludağ University Urology Department, Pediatric Urology Unit in 2006. He received the Fellow of the European Society of Paediatric Urology (FEAPU) certificate in 2008. He has been titled assistant professor in 2010, and received his Ministry of Health, Certificate of Expertise on Pediatric Urology in 2011. He has participated in studies surrounding pediatric urology in Innsbruch University (Germany), and Aarhus University (Denmark) during 2011. He returned to working in Hacettepe University Urology Department and Pediatric Urology Department in 2012, as a lecturer. He then was titled a professor in 2015. He is a member of the board of directors for Society of Urological Surgery in Turkey and Turkish Board of Pediatric Urology. He is an active member of European Association of Urology, Pediatric Urology Guidelines Panel. His area of special interest include, congenital or acquired urological pathologies of childhood, their treatment in medical, open or laparoscopic-endourologic surgery means, renal transplantation and endoscopic stone surgery.

He gratuated Hacettepe University Medicine Faculty in 2005. He then completed his residency in urology, in Hacettepe University Medicine Faculty Urology Department. Following his success in European Urology Board Exams, he was titled FEBU. He attended his mandatory public service between 2012 and 2014, in Yüksekova State Hospital as a Urology specialist. He started his sub-branch specialist education in Hacettepe University Urology Department Pediatric Urology Unit, following him scoring 2nd highest nation-wide, in sub-branch exams of 2013. He received his Fellow of the European Society of Paediatric Urology Board Certificate in 2016. He then started to work in Şanlıurfa Training and Research Hospital in 2017 as consultant doctor. Beginning from 2019, he is as of now, working as a specialist centering on pediatric and transplant surgery, in Hacettepe University Urology Department.
